MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Mr. W. F.. Stilwell, S.M., presided over a sitting of the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Thomas Moran, a fireman, aged 47, and James Ward, a labourer, aged 54, were each charged that by incurring a debt of Is 6d for a meal they obtained credit by fraud, and they were sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment.

John Fitzgerald, a fireman, aged 50, was sentenced to fourteen clays' imprisonment for his fifth offence of drunkenness. The Magistrate remarked that the defendant had 43 previous convictions, most of them arising out of drunkenness. For using obscene language, Harold Beggs, a seaman and labourer, aged 30, and William John Ma ben, a labourer, aged 56, were each fined £1, in default seven days' imprisonment.
