INTERNATIONAL RACE
ENGLISH OWNERS DECLINE
■ Unless, the American .syndicate, is pre-1 pared to pay., a. big. figure to purchase outright one- of England s leading three-year-olds, there is little prospect of an Englis" candidate running for _ the proposed international race in America next year,, says the "Sporting Life." Mr. T. W. Durante, president of the United Hunts Racing Association, the largest amateur organisation o£ its kind in the United States, was at Sandown Park in July, and he discussed the prospects of arranging the race. "We seek to bring some of the best horses of different countries together in America in the fall," he said. "In order that foreign horses should ■ have ■ every chance to become acclimatised, we are endeavouring to make, arrangements for them to come to America in October. At the end of that month and at the beginning of November it is our intention to stage two races, each worth between ten mid twenty-five' thousand dollars. In February, by which time they should lac thoroughly used to the conditions, a mile land a quarter race, probably •north one i hundred thousand dollars, would be comipeted for in California. We are flying to France this weekend in the hope of 1 arranging .with M. L. Volterra to ■ send out" one of his horses, preferably Admiral Drake." „ ~ There is uo prospect of the 'English Derby winner Windsor Lad being _ sent. "I do not contemplate sending Windsor Lad to-America,"'said'the Maharajah /of Rajpipla. "Why should not American horses come to this country?" A week or two later the Maharajah had sold the Derby .winner to Mr. Martin Benson for DO.OOO guineas.
