WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
STOKES' VALLEY
There was the usual good attendance of members and their friends at the August meeting of the Stokes Valley Women's Institute. Mrs. Huse (president) welcomed visitors from a number of other institutes. Two very interesting demonstrations wore important features of the afternoon's programme. " Mrs. McEae gave an instructive talk and demonstration of dressmaking, showing members how to out their own patterns and to take correct measurements. Mrs. McEae also answered many questions for members and in doing so gave some useful hints. Mrs. Combs, Stokes Valley, gave a very interesting demonstration on the making of one's own model at a minute cost. Mrs. Huse thanked the speakers on behalf of the institute, and presented each with a spray of spring flowers. The competition for a frock costing no more than half-a-crown caused considerable interest. Mrs. McEae kindly judged, and Mrs. Huse was pronounced the winner. A pleasant afternoon concluded with the singing of the Na.tional Anthem*
