ALLEGED DEFECT
TRANSPORT LEGISLATION
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
NELSON, August 9,
What was described as a defect in the transport legislation was disclosed at a mooting of the No. 7 Licensing Authority today when counsel (Mr. W. V. Bout) for an applicant pointed out that at presont it was necessary for objections to an application to be lodged boi'orehand, but it was not compulsory for tho grounds of tfie -objection to be disclosed. Ho considered the whole idea was wrong because tho 24 hours' notice of objection was of no assistance tc the other parties nor to the authority.
. The chairman (Dr. S. A. Gibbs) agreed thai tho Act did not require tho grounds for. objections to be stated with the notice, and that was not fair to the applicant.
In the case under discussion an objection against prices had been altered to an objection to the area applied for, counsel claiming that tho applicant was thus deprived of an opportunity of preparing a suitablo case.
