RED CROSS CAFETERIA

It is six years ago since a muchappreciated refreshment stall was established by the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Red Cross Society at the 'Wellington Hospital. During all that time Miss Eager (managing-secretary) and a committee of ladies have attonded there for two half-days and three whole days, each week. There are alinijs two present who make tea and cocoa and supply refreshments, sandwiches, cakes, scones, buns, and biscuits to those who attend for outpatient treatment and accompanying friends

'Captain M. S. Galloway (secretary) and Mr. G. M. Henderson, of the Wellington Centro of tho . Red Cross Society, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. J. Challies, of Pieton, paid a visit to tho hospital yesterday and were entertained by Mrs. Angus and Miss Eager, who were on duty. ■, . '. , ■ :

The cafeteria counter, in one corner c»t' the large waiting-rooin, was the chief object of-interest-to those whose turn |or was not imminent. A ii.uniber. of patients were there'off and :bn,;all the time, and kept; the. ladies on : duty busy. There is no charge, but contributions may •be made to the funds; By the aid of these, and an occasional entertainment arranged by the'committee, the materials are purchased. Thb; service, of course, is free.

.Other members of the committee are Mesdames Ellen, Brandon, Thome, Thomas, Myers, Manson, O'Neil, Boag, Steel, More, Bunny, Hayman, Irvin, and Miss Cambourne.

An average number of about 130 outpatients are served each day, men, women, and children, of all kinds and ages. The, cafotoria, therefore, may be reckoned as an extremely useful and highly-appreciated part of the work of the Red Cross.
