CHATHAM CUP FINAL
QUESTION OF VENUE
AUCKLAND SUGGESTION
(By Telegraph.)
(Special to tho "Evening Post.")
AUCKLAND, This Day.
The venue of the Chatham Cup Association football final was discussed last night by the Auckland Control Board, with a view to the alteration of the present rule making the natioual final playable in Wellington. The view was expressed that the' absence of a Wellington team rendered the final devoid of interest there, whereas followers outside Wellington never saw a final. ■ ,
The intention is to establish a movable venue ensuring tho playing of the final tcame in the centre o£ one of the finalists. While no extra travelling would be entailed, the Dominion Council, which finances the final, would save the hotel expenses of one team by playing in the home centre, besides giving a fillip to the interest of local supporters. Auckland suggests' the playing of the final this year here and arranging future finals by mutual agreement in each island iv Alternative years.
The board decided to consult Thistle, the North Island finalists, before taking the proposal to the New Zealand Council.
