FINANCING THE PROJECT
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, This Day. Steps'to ensure New Zealand's participation in the Melbourne Centenary air race were taken at a meeting of Auckland business men today.
It was decided to incorporate a society to finance the project to place an order for a De Havilland Dragon Moth aeroplane costing £3700; and to approve the nomination of SquadronLeader J. S. Hewett and Fiying-Officer Cyril Kay as pilot and navigator of the aeroplane and to enter them for the handicap contest.
The society, which is being registered this afternoon, has Mr. OliverNicholson as president. Although an art union and public donations will finance the venture, there are twelve guarantors whose maximum liability will be £500 each. Delivery of the aeroplane will be taken in the first week in September, and Messrs Hewett and Kay will leave New Zealand by July at the latest.
