WICKETS GALORE!

One of the most remarkable features of this season's senior cricket in. WelJington is the run of bowling successes I recorded by the University colt Tricklebank during the past six weeks. His bowling figures, in. fact, are phenomenal for this class of cricket, and there can be little doubt that they are brought about largely through- the opportunity given of practising with the representatives. Bight at the outset of the season the writer drew special attention to the fact ■• that, in spite of opinions to the contrary, there was excellent .bowling talent in, Wellington, and proof is now offering in the performances which have (been recorded by bowlers during the season. Up to the end of January Tricklebank had taken twenty-two wickets at 18.5 runs apiece. Since then he has returned the following figures: Seven for' 28, five for 49, eight for 41, three for 65, seven for 26, and five for 39. These represent his performances in three successive matches, in two of which he took twelve wickets and in the other eleven wickets, making a' total of. thirty-five .wickets in three matches at the exceptionally small cost' of seven runs per wicket. Prior to the start of today's matches, Tricklebank had taken fifty-seven wickets at an average of 11.4:r ■ .-■'■. ■■■■■:."•:;-■' It was against, Hutt, last Saturday that he completed', his -'"seven for 26 and then took' five for 39, ' His performances were the outstanding feature, of a low-scoring match on a wicket in use for the first: timd this season.
