OPPORTUNITY LOST
In view of the fact that certain changes in the team were partly responsible for the New" Zealand Cricket Council's cancellation of the visit of a, team from Australia, the following comments by Dr. Eric P. Barbour, made before the changes took place, are interesting': "J. Seaife, who batted and fielded so finely against NiS.W., looked good enough for a place inthis side, and many Queenslanders would prefer Hoy Levy to Andrews. The selectors have missed a great opportunity in not taking Wyeth, the young Queensland left-hand bowler. He looks to me the most likely of all candidates, to develop into the lefthander for. England in 1938. New Zealand wickets would give him an opportunity which he will never receive in Australia. The surprise selection is that of ; J. E. Davey, the young all-rounder from Adelaide, who made a sensational debut in Sheffield Shield; cricket^ by bowling Ponsford with his first ball- The young Tasmanian batsman C. L. Badcbck has been highly spoken of by good judges in the south, and has earned a chance to prove himself in this company." ■'■■■■.. Seaife and Wyeth were subsequently included in the side, aa was J. Ryder, who would have been a further attraction, as well as Theak and Trembath: In JDayey the Australian selectors no doubt saw, ashave'Grimmett and Bichardspn, a bowler of great possibilities.
