AGGRESSIVE BATTING
The match between Midland and Institute which was concluded last weet on Kilbirnie Park was notable for the prolific second-wicket partnership between Bustin and Baker. To gain an outright win Midland wanted runs quickly, and the pair mentioned did nearly all that was required. .In the early stages of play Baker was the more aggressive, and the runs came' quickly from his bat. However, he had the larger share of the bowling and made the most use of every opportunity, being on equal terms with Dustin at 90 after making up arrears of 40 runs. His century was reached in just over one hour; and he was still unbeaten after carrying his total, to 134 without making one mistake. '• . Dustin further* enhanced his record in club cricket by making 125 in approximately 2£ hours, and his display, which was faultless throughout, included twenty 4's. -J*' • M- cLean' 3 performance in making 58 not out for Institute was a further sample of his recent consistent form, and is all the more creditable in view of the lack of support from his team mates. -McLean is a promising batsman and should go a long way in the game if handled in the Tight manner.
His stubbornness last Saturday almost saved Institute from- an outright defeat. Hankins, Institute's 'keeper, showed up to advantage behind the wickets, and his dismissal of O'Neill by a fine catch was a particularly fine offort. Bryant also came into prominence by his performance with the bagL and his medium-paced left-handed jjeliveries continually kept the batsmen/fa the defensive. Bandall, as usual/was given a largo shaTe of the bowling and his average was quite good. ' '■: Midland well deserved their win, as they completely outclassed their opponents in all departments of the game.,
