CHRISTMAS PAY SHOWS

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) , CHRISTCHTJRCH, December IS. By eight votes to seven, the Christchurch City Council decided this evening not to rescind a previous resolution refusing to allow picture theatres to be opened on Christmas Day.

Dr. Th'acker's motion to rescind the resolution was defeated. Dr. Thacker moyed that pictures be.. allowed - on Christmas night. Objection was raised that notice of motion was. necessary, but the Deputy-Mayor, the Eev. J. K. Archer, accepted a motion that standing orders be suspended to allow fur-' thor_discussionl This motion was lost by eight votes to seven.
