GOOD RESULTS

CROYDON SCHOOL YEAR

COMMEMORATION SERVICE

The annual commemoration service aud prize-giving of the Wellington Diocesan School for Boys, Croydon, Day's Bay, was held on. Saturday. There was a choral service in tho morning, taken by the Yen, Archdeacon Johnson, assisted by the Rev. W. Raine, and the prize-giving took place in'the school gymnasium after afternoon tea had been served.

The service' was modelled on tho lines of the commemoration services held each year at Eton, Harrow, and Rugby. The headmaster read the prayers, aud the lessons were read by Messrs. L. Courtenay Hall and W. Ford, masters at the school. Boys from the school comprised the choir, aud Mies Wells played the organ. At the prize-giving ceremony the gymnasium was crowded with parents aud friends." His Lordship the Bishop of Wellington' presided, and Mrs. Sprott presented the'prizes.'

The boys sang a patriotic cantata excellently, the solos and choruses being well received by the audience. Carols added a festive colour to the musical programme.

The headmaster's report showed that though the. roll was smaller, the results of the year's work, both, in the classroom and in the realm of sport, had equalled any previous year, and had surpassed most . ■

The Bishop o£ Wellington spoke in eulogistic terms of the work of the headmaster and Mrs. Skellcy. He stated that the work for which the school had been founded was being carried out in a manner entirely satisfactory to the board of governors. He stressed the healthy environment in which the boys lived at the school. During the year, he said, there had not been one single, case of sickness of an epidemic order or otherwise, which indicated not only healthy surroundings but great care on the part of those responsible for the boss' health.
