LIGHT FALL OF RAIN
(Special to tho "Evening Post.") NELSON, December 18. \ cry welcome rain fell in' Nelson yesterday, but it did not continue long enough to relieve the drought conditions to any appreciable extent. The Cawthron Institue recorded .56in in the city, but evidently, the fall in the country districts was less, the Government Research Orchard at Redwood's Valley recording .35in. Gardens and crops will benefit to some extent, however, and the-fall will easa the position in regard to the water supply, especially for people in the country area who rely mainly on, tanks for''storage.
The death occurred suddenly this moriiing of William Hope Simpson, aged 61 years, cable - sub-editor of the "Evening Mail.", He had been on the staff of the "Mail" for forty-three years. At one time he was an active member of the Kelson Harmonic Society's Orchestra. He was a prominent member of the Nelson Horticultural Society and Chrysanthemum Club, being a past, president ol both bodies. He was also a keen member of Ihc recently-formed Nelson Fern Society.
