HANDWORK AT MARSDEN
MANY CLEVER PUPILS
No one who saw the liauJwork at Marsdeii School yesterday could fail to be impressed with its uharni aud artistry. The leather, brass, pewter, and other metal work were all of a very high order of merit, artistic in design, and good colouring and execution wore shown throughout. The posters in the j same room were wonderfully well designed, and were full of interest, showing that there is no real need for exhibitors of any kind to go outside the Dominion for such work, as there are so many who can execute such excellent results. The advanced drawing was also particularly good, and revealed not only good instruction, but also that there is plenty of talent available among the young ones. Upstairs the show of needlework was quite startling—such an array of beautifully, made frocks, from a filmy ball gown of egg-shell blue, with inset godets of narrow frills, to charming <'tubfrocks" and neat tweeds and serges. Then there were jumpers and blouses, some knitted, and others of thin, materials with embroideries, /all excellently carried out. Of embroidery there was a great show, and many dainty Christmas gifts were probably there in the form of doilies; tray cloths, sachets, and tea and supper cloths, all beautifully made.
The botany section also was particularly interesting, representing a knowledge of New Zealand flora and fauna, and skill and patience in drying and mounting, which was admirable.
Her Excellency Lady Bledisloe visited all' the sections before she left the school, and was much pleased with the work.
