VICEREGAL VISIT
CITIZENS' DAY NURSERY
Lady Luke presided over the recent meeting of the Citizens' Day Nursery Committee. During the month her Excellency. Lady Bledisloe, accompanied by . Miss Diana Harris, paid a morning visit to the nursery, and was met by Lady Gray and members. In welcoming her Excellency, Lady Gray briefly outlined the aims of. the society. In reply, her Excellency referred to the high place New Zealand took in matters of child welfare, and spoke sympathetically of the good work done by the committee. During the visit the children sang several action songs, and one tiny girl presented her Excellency with a posy of roses. Later in the day her Excellency sent a beautiful symbolic picture for the nursery walls. It was reported that the matron and her 'assistants had their hands more than full, sometimes as many as thirtytwo children being left for the day. This meant more meals, and funds were urgently required to keep this very necessary institution up to its proper standard.
Mrs. E. L. Sutro (Hawke's Bay), Mrs. and Miss Amphlett (England), Mrs. Richard, and Misses Richard (Sydney) are staying at the Midland Hotel, . .
