COMPETITION FOR HIDES
Competition was very keen for soundpelted sheepskin lines at the usual fortnightly salt! of hides and skins hqjd by HVellhigton. woolbrokers yesterday, but prices were Up to Mjd per 11) easier. There, was good demand for salted lines, mostly pelts and short wools,' which maintained the figures of the.last sale. There was keen competition for hides, ox hides showing an advance of l-8d per lb on all grades but lightweights. . Cowhides wer6 firm with a tendency to harden in price in heavy sorts. Kip, yearling, and.calf sold1 firm at the level of the last sale. ' The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, has received the following advice from its London house, December 15.—Sheepskins: Combing and clothing merino, 10 per cent. higher; combing and clothing, crossbred, 10 per cent, higher;' demand good. Pelts neglected.
