CRICKET
NEW ZEALAND SELECTION
WELLINGTON'S MOTION
The selection of New Zealand representative cricket teams in recent years has been made by a committee consisting of representatives from each of the four major associations. The Wellington Cricket Association, however, is urging that the management committee of the Now Zealand.' Cricket Council should bo empowered to appoint a sole selector or a selection committee, as it thinks fit. This means an amendment to the rules, and the intention was to move in this direction .at the council's annual meeting, held recently in Christchurch. A revision of the rules, it was found, had made provision for the matter, and Wellington did not present its motion. The position, however, did not work out according to expectations at the annual meeting, and Wellington has now to move in the direction indicated.
The New Zealand Council has advised associations that a special meeting is to be held in January, and at this the Wellington motion will be dealt with. It is expected also "that some definite information regarding the visit of an Australian team, to New Zealand, and details in connection with the tour, will be made known at that meeting, if no announcement is made in the meantime.
