RIDES FOR AUCKLAND

ROY REED'S LIKELY PAIR

(Special from "Limited.") HAWERA, December I' 2. The weather remains dry, and Hawera tracks are dry and fast. Golden Hair is to be ridden by Roy Reed in. the Great Northern Derby. L. G. Morris was originally engaged to ride Whenuakura in the Great Northern Foal Stakes, biit as this horseman will not now be at the Auckland Meeting and as K. Voitre has accepted the ride ■on Brown Betty in the Stakes, Roy Reed has also been eugaged to pilot the colt. During tho weekend Cnlamine (Conway) was given her first schooling lesson siiipe coming in this season, and she registered a good exhibition over five fences. W. Grihdlay is giving Havering barrier practice with Argument. With caretaker Morse, at the lever on Saturday, Havering went away quite satisfactorily. Although recommended for the schooling.list, he has not as yet been officially banned, and is being nominated for the Stratford Meeting. The Auckland trip baa been cancelled. . Carfex is holding his condition splendidly, and is to accompany J. Brown's two-year-olds to Auckland. Carfex is not a weight-carrier, and may have to be considered in the Auckland Cup with 7.3. Mr. A. Alexander's Diacquenod—Wake Up two-year-old is to race under the name of Eara. > C. Jackson will have Aga Khan and Diagano racing at Awapuni. Both are in excellent condition, and a mile and a half may not be too far for Aga Khan, who figures in the Manawatu Cup. J. Fryer has March Alone in the hurdles at Ellerslie on .the 'concluding days. March Alone hangs on well, and his trainer 'has hopes of his running out two miles over fences well. 1 Taitoru continues to please in his work, and is to leave for Waipa on Thursday. G. Duncan is to pilot him in the Maiden Plate, and despite the advantage in weights of the two-year-olds Taitoru will carry a lot of Hawera support. Hilary, the newcomer to O.1 Cox's stable, is getting through a course of road work preparatory to starting track work. The Tiger has been entered for Awapuni, but present intentions are to race him at New Plymouth. Mr. W. Kirkland, of Foxton, who returned from a trip to Australia last week, spent the weekend in Hawera, and on Saturday was present at the Hawera racecourse to see his two-year-old Whenuakura galloped. He was well pleased' with the manner in which the Great Northern Foal Stakes candidate finished up his task, and, chatting about Whenuakura's proposed trip to Australia in the autumn, stated that he had every hope of his colt's doing well over the other side if he continues to. go on satisfactorily until then. .. ' ' J. Fryer's two-year-old Radiant Star and Gibraltar will most probably race at Awapuni. Don Erma, who made a good showing at Waverley, is a much improved gelding, and should do his connections a good turn in the hurdle races during the holiday racing.
