DUTIES ON LAY FIGURES
■Application was marlo to tho Tariff Commission today by Display Studios; Wellington, for the retention of the present British- preferential and general tariffs of 20 per cent, and 45 per cent, respectively on imported lay figures, busts, and dress stands, and for tho Australian tariff agreement rate of 20 per cent, ad valorem to bo increased to at least 45 pnr cent., and preferably to 60 per cent. Mr. V. Jacobs, works manager, stated that tho business was in a position to manufacture for export to. Australia, and if that market was open to it the cost of production would bo reduced enabling ' competition in Australia. The duty on such goods from New Zealand entering Australia was 50 per cent, ad valorem plus 10 per cent primage, and duty would be paid on the current wholesale prices in New Zealand. , ' •
