REPRESENTATIVE MEETING

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

Representatives from all parts of the Wellington Province attended the annual meeting of the Girl Guides' Association held at the Girl Guide headquarters, Kelvin Chambers, yesterday afternoon, when Mrs. J. G. Coatcs presided over a large attendance. 2350 GUIDES IN DISTRICT. The annual report, presented by Mrs. Martin Tweed (Provincial Commissioner), stated that the ;nembership of the association had again shown a slight increase, Palmerston North havingiincreased from 193 to 257, and Wanganui from 363 to 417. The dearth of Guiders had been the reason for the falling back of companies in several districts. Forty-eight new warrants had been issued to officers, ten new companies had been registered, and .the total number of Guides in the province was now 2350, an increase of 31. Regret was expressed at the resignation of Mrs. Cyril King (District Commissioner for Palmerston North) who had been replaced by Mrs. Gordon Eliott. The report also referred with regret to the death of Mrs. W. G. Reid, who had been a member of the provincial executive. Miss Marie Barton had been elected a vice-president of the association. The Bledisloe Cup for Rangers, for which the subject for this year's competition had been handcraft, had been- won by Wellington Province. The graves in the Soldiers' Cemetery, continued the report, had been tended throughout the year by different Guide companies. Sixteen camps had been held in the province during the y.ear, a record number. Training for Guiders had been held by Miss Duthie in Taihape, Palmerston North, and Carterton, and a training weekend for patf 01-leaders had been held at Lowry Bay and another for Brown Owls at their whare. Combined district training classes^ had been held regularly at the provincial headquarters. The thanks of tho association were expressed to all who had helped during the year. NOW IN ITS TENTH YEAR. Mrs. Coates (ex-president), in speaking to the report, said that the association was now entering upon its tenth year, a milestone in its life and an oceasic|i for warm birthday wishes. She was sorry that she had found it impossible to give to, the. work the time that must be given by one holding the office 'of president. It had been a real pleasure to be associated with the Guides, and she would continue her interest in the movement. An exceedingly interesting address on the/ attitude towards the modern girl and the necessity for sympathetic understanding was given by Miss Baber, late principal of Marsden School.
