STILL SORTING

POSTMEN'S EFFORT

; DISTRESSED WILL BENEFIT A meeting of the distribution committee • was held in-the Smith Family's rooms yesterday morning at which' representatives from the postmen, the inter-church com- ! mittees, and the Smith Family were present. It was decided to ask people who had not been called upon for their parcels either to ring the supervisor of postmen (45-730) or write giving the nature o£ the ■ package, and the address. The collection of the Wadestown and Khandallah section | will be ilnalised on Saturday,,the only, day . on which postmen will be available for . this particular duty. The success of the "drive" is beyond all : anticipations, hence the delay in the col- ! lection of the parcels, and it is estimated that it will be at least a fortnight before ' distribution can be made in bulk to the inter-church committees. No distribution whatever will take place from the central dump, or through any channels • but the inter-church committees. ' The whole of the material 13 being sorted into , various groups, that which is fit for im- . mediate use will.be distributed as early as possible; that which has to be'repaired ' will be dealt with by the women's unemployment committee for distribution later. Material that is unfit for use will be disposed of to the flock mills. Waste paper and string will be baled up and sold to the paper mills, and bottles will be disposed of to the best advantage. It is interesting to note that over threequarters of a ton of jam were collected, and it is estimated that at least six thou- ' sand pairs of boots and shoes were received. The boots that are available for immediate issue will be sent out as soon as possible, those that require repair will be handed over to the Smith Family to be repaired in the f.imily boot repairing depot. Over, £125 was collected as cash, which will be used for the purpose of defraying the expenses of the "drive," and in the 1 repair of clothing aijd boots, and possibly the purchase of new material. A great deal of furniture has already , been received, and there is a great deal more to come. This will be put into order and held in the central store for distribution as the need arises. The committee desires to express appreciation of the good service rendered by the many friends of ■ the postmen, who , helped to make the "drive" such a great success. _______„_„_„_„
