OVERSEAS FARE MONEY
CONVERSION ALLEGED
1 (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) i AUCKLAND, This Day. ! The trial is proceeding in the Supreme ! Court of Harold Bradley Brownrigg, : charged with fraudulent conversion, i The charge alleges that he obtained i.- £17 from one, Manning, by falsely lel presenting that there existed a limited liability company known as Overseas ' Passages, Ltd., -which could supply him i with a passage to England for & 17. ; The Crown Prosecutor said that there : was no such company, no such ship, and -no such passage. The accused' made • use of a contract note which had all l the appearance of being in authorita--3 tive document. There was in. it a clause i requiring the company to refund the t money if it could not find a passage. 3 Manning, who is a farm labourer, said that he understood the accused was the 3 representative of a company, "Witness :. gave up his job on a farm and gave 1 the accused a bicycle to pay the ball ance of the fare. He could get no r more satisfaction. ■ He offered to take£l2 back, and leave the accused £5, - but nothing happened. "When witness j called the accused was always too busy 3 to see him, or was away.
