Lander in his annual report, and Mr. Page said that several of the houses in the city appeared to have shut up, or partially shut up, their dining-rooms. "We think that one of. the obligations which should be incidental to the holding of a licence should be the making of provision for tho public wanting meals," he said.t "We think that the. keeping open of a dining-room should be carried out as tho statute requires." The application of T. M. Brennan foj renewal of a licence at the Te Aro Hotel was adjourned for three months. "Mr. Brennan has been a licensee for a good many years now," said Mr. Pago, "but this year his application for a Tenewal is objected to by the police, who. point out in their report that during the last six months he had had three convic? tions, which renders his licenco liable to 'bo forfeited. The record put in against him is really tho most eloquent evidence of his conduct of the hotel, for he has had six convictions for breaches of tho Licensing Act during the last two years." Mr. Page said that as Mr. Brennan was Hhe holder of the lease, no doubt an adverse decision of the committee would involve him in a substantial loss, but the com-, mitteo has given that matter some thought, and had come to the conclusion that it would not be proper for them to renew the licence It had been decided to adjourn the matter for three months in order to give Mr. Brennan time to make suitable business arrangements.
