CONVERSION LOAN
AUSTRALIA'S PROSPECTS
COMMENT IN LONDON
LONDON, May 6. Commenting on the prospect of an Australian loan conversion, the "Financial News" saya the- task of the negotiators is to find such amount as could be placed on the market at 4 per cent, at a.reasonable discount without the risk of prolonged market indigestion. It is doubtful whether any effort to deal with, say, all callable indebtedness carrying a nominal rate of over 5} per cent, could satisfy these conditions, so it is evident that any scheme must be in the nature of a compromise. That need not prevent Australia dealing with quite a substantial sum.
