AERO CLUB

DANCE AT KELBURN

first of the monthly dances arranged for this season by the Wellington Aero Club was held in the Kelburn Kiosk on Saturday evening. There was a large attendance of club members and their friends, wlio were received by the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Petre. Mrs. Petre wore an attractive gown of midnight blue silk patterned in autumn tints. The programme, a clever imitation of,a page from, the "official log," with amusing notices regarding, the evening's "ground manoeuvres" and some very appropriate witticisms in the '.'remarks '' column, was typical of the originality and brightness which made the danco such a success. From the "take off" quickstep early in the evening to the "cut-out" several hours later everything went with tho swing that makes for whole-hearted enjoyment, A mock "air raid" was a new and very offectivo surprise item, and a pleasant interlude was provided by Miss Muriel Wilton, who danced the " Nautch Dance " and gave a clever display of syncopated tap-dancing. Tho cup given by Miss L. Meatehem for monthly competition was presented during the evening to Mr. P. Q. Smithj who was the winner of last month's landing competition for A and Endorsed A pilots. Mr. E. Gay was second. The details of the competition were explained by Mr. W. Appleton, a vice< president of the Aero Club. Mr. and Mrs. Appleton, who leave shortly for England, received the good wishes of those present for a happy holiday. The "bombing" competition, dance was won by Mr. W- Appleton and Mrs Legge, and the "stall tuz-n" or statue dance by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Petre. Excellent dance music was provided by the orchestra, and extras were played by Mr. S. Eubonstein. The novel programme and weli-oxe-cuted arrangements were the work of the social committee, comprising Misses Nanoya Wilson (who wore a frock of shell pink crepe satin) and L. Meatehem (sprigged organdie), Mrs. E. Ironmonger, and Messrs. G. Wallace, F. Petre, A. W. Nisbet, W. Christie, K. Keating, F. H. Gardiner, K. Anderson, and ;K. Smith. ' .
