NEW GARMENTS FROM OLD

Among the many organisations workingl to assist distress is one which labours quietly and consistently, year after year, making "now- lamps for old" and "silk purses out of sow's ears." This is the Khandallah Stocks ing League. The word "stocking" is a misnomer. It is true that marvellous garments ■ are made out of, old stocking tops,- little frocks, saria bloomers

for children, etc., but actually all is grist that comes to the mill of the league. Good parts of worn woollen underwear become cosy vests, knickers, etc. Old faded Jersey suits are dyed and made into little frocks. Handknitted garments are. unravelled, washed, and reknitted by. this busy group of workers. Flannel and viyella are particularly welcome. Each year the articles are displayed,, packed, and dispatched to various needy sources. Some go abroad to. the West Ham Mission, under Sister Kathleen. Others are distributed among our own needy little ones. This year, owing to the fact that most wardrobes have been thoroughly depleted for "clothes drives," the league is finding.it extremely difficult to gather in its "grist," and offers of parts of garments, faded or torn woollies, skirts of warm nightdresses, stocking tops, tweed skirts, etc., will be enthusiastically welcomed. If those who can contribute even a small parcel to this deserving work would telephono Mrs. Ffitch, Khandallah, Tel. 37-841, arrangements will be made to collect parcels. Felt hats make splendid little slippers, and men's- woollen underwear is especially welcome. : , ■ ' . .
