WORK AT SILVERSTREAM

Mrs. Moss presided at "the recent annual meeting - o-f ' the - Silverstream Women's Institute, when ■ the report was read and approved.' It showed encouraging progress/, and an increase in membership,, which is'now ,86.

'Arts and crafts1, singing, Orama, sewing, and' gardening circles had been formed, and were doing splendid work. Plays had been read and -performed;' warm clothing ior the needy had been madej good singing had contributed to the enjoyment of the meetings and entertainments and a very profitable stall added to the. funds. Exchanges of seeds and plants and visits to gardens had proved of interest, and all these activities of the circles had added tremendously to the interest and usefulness of the institute. Tho financial- statement showed a satisfactory position. A letter was read from Mrs. Castle (president) thanking the outgoing committee for its loyalty and enthusiasm during the past' year, and also the members for their loyal support. The officers were also thanked for their good work. A motion was passed thanking Mrs. Castle for her letter, and the secretary was instructed to write conveying to her from tho whole iustistitute its sympathy for her in her illness and wishes for her speedy restoration to health. .

The following committee- was elected:—President, Mrs. Castle; vicepresidents, Mesdames C- Jones and Bidding; committee, Mesdames Hoicroft, Deller, Campbell, Pierard, Chapman Taylor, Misses Farrow, Barton, and Mumby.

Votes of thanks were accorded to Mesdame s Zohrab and Gifford, who acted as tellers in the election, and Mr Mason, who acted as auditor.

OFFICERS FOR NEW YEAR

Mrs. Len Wood presided at tho annual meeting of the Wainui-o-mata Institute, when the year's report showed many interesting features, and tho bal-ance-sheet proved very satisfactory. an the course of a few remarks, the president thanked all for their interest and support during her term of office, and hoped the new president wouia receive tho same support. The new committee was elected as follows:—Prosident, Mrs. White; secretary, Mrs. Heatncote; assistant secretary, Mrs Haclclyj treasurer, Miss Lucy Wood-vice-presidents, Mrs. Lcn Wood, Mrs' J. O. Wood; committee, Mesdamcs Burrow, Calhs, Dick, and Frayer The competition for the afternoon was for the best collection of vegetables from members' own gardens Mesdames Callis and Heathcoto tiod with an equal number of points. Tho prizes for the year's competition which had been decided on points went

to Mra. Leu Wood, who was presented with a rose bowl. The second prize was won by Mrs. Burrow.

Two- members leaving the district were each presented with pleasing gifts, Mrs. Thompson receiving a rug, and Mrs. Stevens a dainty handbag. Mrs. Wood in presentiug the gifts regretted (he loss of two good members, but extended to them the good wishes of all in their new homes.

Tea and the social half-hour-proved very enjoyable, the hostesses being Mesdames Boyer, Callis, Dick, and Miss. Baskette. A discussion on future programmes and singing brought to a close a most interesting afternoon.
