TAXPAYING TROUBLES

(To the Editor!)

Sir,—Recently I read a letter signed laxpayer," and I would like the writer to know there are others just as hardj or harder, hit, than himself as regards taxes. I have been a widow for the past fourteen years, having been left with three young children to rear. I have had to work very hard, and; still .have to, as two of my children, aged 19 and 22, have been out of work for the past three Years through no fault of their own. I, the same as other wage earners, have had so much deducted from my pay for unemployment tax, and then on top of that I have to pay the unemployment ■ levy of 5s every three months for my son, though ' the Unemployment-Board lias refused him relief work through my being honest enough to tell them I was myself earning a little. It is only an existence, and I will, like many others, welcome the day when fairer taxation is meted out to those -with dependants, but I am afraid it is very far distant. Instead of me being able to sit back a bit now that my family is grown up, I have to work harder than ever, but why grumble, for that gets one nowhere these ' days ? And "Taxpayer" will just have to do the same as others, pay out and smile, for, as he must know, "Smile, and the world smiles with you, weep and you weep alone," is a true saying. The only .possible hope for all is '•Trust in the Lord for all things and it will be given unto you," even though you do have to wait.—l am, etc.,
