TO JOIN R.A.F.
Two young Now Zealand pilots, Messrs. Alan MeWhannell, of the "Wellington Aero Club, and Mr. Bruce Hope, of the Canterbury Aero Club, will leave Auckland by the Monowai on Thursday .en route for. England, with the intention of entering the) Royal Air Force on .short service commissions.. Both have been recommended by SquadronLoader T. M. Wilkes, Director of Air Services.. ... ■ .
Both Mr. Hope and Mr. McWhanncll aro old boys of Wellington College. Mr. McWhannell is the son of Mr. P. McWhannell, of Moxham avenue, a wellknown bowler. Ho was able to fly solo after , threo and a half hours' dual instruction/passing the tests for his A licence in October. He was engaged in the Customs Department. Mr. Hope gained his pilot's A- licence in September. '_•■•■
