THE MAORI AND HIS LAND
Taking as his text "The Maori and His Land," Judge B. N. .Tones, Chief Judge of the Native Land Court and TJnder-Secretary for Native Affairs, delivered an interesting address to members of the Wadestown and Highland Park Men's Society in St. Luke's parish hall last evening. There were about 80 members present. Judge Jones dealt at length with the characteristics of the ( ' Maoris, and traced the legislation dealing with Maori lands from the first Act in 1862 up to the present day. At the conclusion of his address the speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. During the ; evening Mr. Kingi Tahiwi entertained with songs.
Cable advice has been received by Messrs. J. G. Ward and Co., Ltd., Invercargill, New Zealand agents for Sntton and Sons., Ltd., Eoyal seedsmen of Beadjing, England, that Mr. Leonard Sutton, 0.8. E., the chairman and .managing director, had passed away Mr. Sutton lost four sons in the Great War.
