SOME OVER-RIPE
MAUt POMARE rS BANANAS
A big percentage- of; the cases of bananas from Samoa; and Niue landed at.Lytteltori by the. Government motorship Maui Pomare this week were in an* over-ripe 'condition, according to a r£Iport'in a,' Christchurch: paper.: ■ It' was stated that; some of the bananas were, selling as low as 4s, 3s, and even.' 2s 6d a case, whereas those in good:order were, selling at 14s and 16s- a case; So far as the* fruit landed in . Wellington by the'MajUi Pomare is. concerned, a "Post" reported; was informed by a'local produce merchant to-day that tho consignment from Niue was in firstclass condition, being as good as any received front that1' island. Many of tho Samoan bananas^'however, were in a ripe to over-ripe condition. - The Maui Pomare brought an exceptionally small-fruit cargo landing 6000 cases for the South Island, ,and 1000 for the North Island.
