MARIST CLUB
The Marist Rugby Football Club has had an exceptionally successful season this year, winning the junior championship and finishing well up in the senior and several of the other grades. Members and supporters of the club, therefore, had good reason to feel pleased with themselves at the club's annual social function on Saturday night. There was an exceptionally big attendance, about 150 being present. The toast of "Our Club" was proposed by Mr. G. C. Black, M.P., who congratulated the club on the splendid performances of its teams, particularly in the senior A and junior grades. Mr. IT. Bowman replied. A tribute to those in control of the game locally was paid by Mr. I. M'Hardy in proposing the toast of "The Wellington Rugby Union." and Mr. A. J. Griffiths replied. Mr. H. Cuming spoke of the fairness and efficiency of the officials controlling the games during the season in proposing the toast of "The Referees," and Mr. J. Troy replied. Dr. P. F. M'Evedy, president of the Wellington Rugby Union, who was present for a while, referred to the Marist seniors as the "mystery" team owing to its penchant for having unexpected wins and unexpected losses. Mr. J. Prendeville, chairman of the Rugby Union's Manage-
nient Committee, also spoke. The Brough Cup, awarded to the team having the best championship record for the season, was presented to the junior team. The proceedings were enlivened by items by Messrs. D. Foley, Bevan, Barlhold, D, llislop, and E. Murphy. Mr. Bell was the accompanist.-
