WELLINGTON CLUB
The Wellington Rugby Football Club, which last year won the senior B competition without losing a match, and came close to heading the senior A ladder this season, has repeated its performance of last year by winning the club championship which goes to the club gaining (lie most championship points in all grades. The Wellington club makes a praclicc of fostering tlio same umuug tho younger players, aud lias more pliers wearing its colours than arc members of any other local club. These mid other points about the club, whose history datesback to the beginning of the game in Wellington, were referred to when the time came for compliments to be exchanged at the annual social function of the club on Saturday night. The president of the club, Mr. J. Murray, presided over an attendance of about 100, and among those present were the following: Squadron-Leader T. Jl. Wilkes, Dr. P. V. M'Evedy (president of the Wellington Rugby Union), Messrs. J. Prendeville (chairman of the union's Management Committee), G. F. W. Jackson (the lion, treasurer), and J. E. Manchester (a member of the Canterbury team which won the Ranfurly Shield). The toast list was as follows:—"Wellington Rugby Football Club," proposed by SquadronLeader Wilkes, responded to by Mr. J. Murray; "The Club's Teams." proposed by Mr. G. H. Weir, responded to by captains of the various teams; "Wellington R.F.U. and Wellington Referees' Association," proposed by Mr. D. Bayfield, responded to by Mr. J. Prendeville, on behalf of the union, and Mr. J. Moffitt, on behalf of the referees; "Kindred Clubs," proposed by Mr. J. Thompson, responded to by Messrs. J. Shearer | (Poneke), A. Preston (Wellington Col- ! lego Old Boys), Gillespie (Hutt), Peterson (Petone), and others. During the evening items were given by Messrs. J. D. Hislop, Norman Aitken, A. J. Hinds, F. L. Chatwin, and C. Douthett. Mr. C. H. Chatwin was accompanist.
