VERDICT AT THE BALLOT BOX.

The contention of members of the Labour Party that union rates should be paid on relief works was touched upon by the Prime Minister in the course of a speech in the House of Representatives yesterday.

Replying to Mr. Forbes, Mr. D. G. Sullivan, who occupies the position of Mayor of Christchurch as well as member for Avon, said that the Christchurch City Council had been returned to maintain the present wages standard.
