COVERS FOR CARCASSES
BRITISH OR JAPANESE ?
Comment on the use by freezing companies of Japanese stockinette, in preference to the British article, was made at the conference of the New Zealand Farmers' Union to-day. A remit stated that owing to a complaint that Japanese ■ stockinette was being used to coyer frozen meat carcases inquiries should be made as to whether it was not possible for British material to be used. The secretary stated that he had received information that if the works used British material the extra cost would be £10,000 to £12,000 a year. The Meat Committee had come to the conclusion that the extra cost would not be justified. The secretary stated that he had been further informed that a number of works used English stockinette because the extra cost was rnthct less than usual, and it was hoped that the position would resolve itself into & preference, for the British material. The matter then lapsed.
