Contrary to expectations Wellington had no difficulty in defeating University^ c On their showing in their match with Karori last week the Greens were, expected to be formidable- opponents for Wellington on, SaturdajV Wellington, however, had the' better of the game throughout, and won by.4 goals to.nill From the outset University led the attack and for a while held a .'territorial advantage. , Wellington. then took charge,, and. a forward rush resulted in a penalty corner being given against the Greens. The ball'was sent.out in front of | the goal-mouth, where Rushbridge got possession and had a shot at goal. The ball hit one of the 'University p'laj'er's sticks and cannoned off into the net. From the bully-off Wellington again forced the pace1 and several times came near to scoring: Macintosh, however, effected some good saves. The half-time score was Wellington 1, University 0v On' resumption Wellington took the offensive, and although they.were constantly in their opponent's territory they could not score. .Overcrowding in the' circle lost them many chances. In the following play the Green forwards made . several attempts at scoring, but they could .not penetrate Wellington's defence.' Wellington continued to have the. better of the game territorially,! and frbm a penalty corner Burton snicked the ball into the net. From the bully-off the ball was again taken into University's circle where, from a scramble near, the^ goal-mouth, Neate had no.. difficulty in scoring. Wellington 3, University 0. Tp-w-ards the end of the game University were hard .pressed to stem the repeated attacks made by their opponents, and, although they succeeded on several oecas-. ions' they could not. prevent Hamilton from breaking through and scoring a good goal. University made a desperate .attempt to score towards the finish, but without result. Mr. W. A. Scott and Mr. iW. Keys were the referees. ' ' '
