TRADES COUNCILS

FEDERATION AGAIN MOOTED A movement is afoot, it is stated, to revive the Trades Council Federation, and it is probable that before very long the subject will receive consideration by the Wellington Trades and Labour Council. Several years ago the Trades Council Federation was a strong industrial body in Now Zealand, having branches in Auckland, Wellington, Christehurch, Dunedin, Invercargijl, T.hnaru, Gisbornc, and Wanganui. . When the executive decided to affiliate with the ,New Zealand Alliance of Labour, the Wellington Trades Council was the only council to affiliate, though the Dunedin Council joincd'latcr. At present neither Auckland nor Christehurch Trades Councils are affiliated to the Alliance of Labour. It is probable that a special meet- j ing of tho Wellington Trades and Labour Council will be held shortly to consider the position.
