CAR STRIKES KELBURN VIADUCT
Inquiries info tlio presence of broken glnss beneath tlio Kclburn viaduct have rovoalod the fact that an accident which might well have been fatal occurred early on Friday morning. Two men were" driving into town from Karor.i at about 1.30 a.m. and crashed into the central support of the old bridge. The car, which was of the "baby" type, turned completely over and the occupants were thrown out, one of the men receiving an injury to his wrist and the other a lacerated scalp. All the windows in the car were smashed—this accounts for the broken . glass—and the bodywork was considerably damaged. /With the aid of a passing motorist the car was righted and was able to move away under its own power. The road at this point is extremely narrow and is not well lit. The driver of the. damaged vehicle was not famil-1 iar with the route, and in his indecis-1 ion whether to follow tlio tramline or ■ benr to the left he struck the pier. In more ways than one the new bridge will, when, completed, be welcome.
