REPARATION ESTATES
MR. 11.I1. L. A. GOTZ APPOINTED
The Hon. G. W. Forbes announced today that Mr. F. L. A. Gotz has been appointed general manager of tho New Zealand Reparation Estates in Western Samoa. ■ Tho Reparation Estates comprise an area of approximately 100,000 acres, representing mainly former Germanowned properties in Samoa, which the Now Zealand Government took over as part of its share of war reparations due by Germany. In November, 1928, the control and management of the estates J were tho-subject of a searching investigation by tho New Zealand Departmental Committee which inquired into i administrative affairs in the territory-1 generally, and many suggested improvements were outlined in the report subsequently presented to the Government. The decision to appoint a general manager for the estates was one result of the committee's recommendations.
Mr. Gotz was born in Auckland and educated at King's College, Wanganui Collegiate School, and OtagO University. He then proceeded to British Malaya, where he remained for a number of years and gained an extensive knowledge of all branches of plantation work. Latterly Mr. Gotz has been a member of the staff of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile .Agency Company, Ltd. He saw service during tho war with tho Eoyal Air Foreo.
Mr. Gotz will leave for Samoa early in June to take over his new duties.
