"A LITTLE SORRY FOR HIM"
The Christchurch "Press" (Reform) says: "Mr. Forbes, whom the United caucus in Wellington yesterday elected to the leadership of the party, is now so clearly designated as Sir Joseph Ward's successor in the Prime Ministership that he will on all sides be congratulated as if he had in fact already succeeded his former leader not in the party position only, ,but in tho national as well, and these congratulations which he will receive from political opponents, as well as friends, will havo a special warmth in Canterbury, where Mr! Forbes was born and has lived the whole of his life, many years of it in the public eye."
The "Press" goes on to refer to tho political situation, and concludes: "It is indeed impossible to congratulate Mr. Forbes without being a little sorry for him. The difficulties that grow of themselves out of his inheritance are formidable enough to bring down bolder and more agile politicians, and his opponents may have little to do but watch the inevitable happen."
