' Mr. William Hunter Barrett, who died at Mataura last week, was at one ime a resident o; Wellington. He vfaa born m County Donegal seventy-four years ago.-.- He. joined the Irish Constabulary, at Dublin at the age of IS ?nd after two years' service in-that force he ,came to New Zealand and. enlisted, m-, : tUe Dominion Police Force ' S stationed for. various periods afc Wellington, Clyde, Arrowtowi, Queenstown, Invercargill, . Temuka, Annat Lumsden, and finally at Mataura. He retired at Mataura in May, 1924, after torty-flve years' service. Mr. Barrett was associated with many sports bodies at iXlataura, and was also interested in. the peal Horticulture Socifity, and waa president of the Bowling Club for several years. He also maintained a lively interest in Freemasonry, and" was also treasurer of St. SaviourVChurch for a number of years.
