THE "RIPPER" SCARE
NEW DUSSELDORF THEORY POLICE SEEKING A WOMAN (Eeceived 14th November, 2.30 p.m.) DTJSSELDOBF, 13th Nov. A new theory to the effect that the "ripper" is a woman, is at present being investigated by the Dusseldorf police. Inspector Gennat, a great Berlin detective, has been specially summoned. The police declare that they have obtained evidence that a mysterious woman distributed sweets to children with whom the latest victim was playing on the evening prior to her disappearance. An important aspect is that the woman is reported to have a hoarse voice, which would help her to pass as a man if dressed as one. A further scrutiny of the map reveals that the writing is distinctly feminine In character. Objects found by the digging party in the field on the outskirts of the city consist of a woman's hat, blouse, and. a bunch of keys.
