OBITUARY

The sudden death occurred on 23rd January of a highly-esteemed resident of Wellington and. Palmorston North in the person of Mrs. .Grace ; Nellie 13wing. The deceased lady, -who was .born at Nelson, was;the fifth daughter 'of tho late Mr. and... .'Mis.-' Bichard Townsend, of Great Ilf.(.■(],.Essex, England. Tho -death is announced by an exchange of Mrs. R. E. S. Waldman, a pioneer resident of New Zealand, at the age of 83 years. Mrs. Waf dman was formerly a resident of Wellington, arid at the time of her death was visiting her son, Mr. G. L. Waldman, of Pongaroa.. Mrs., Waldman was a .native of Staffordshire; andwas married in 1873, coming immediately afterwards.to New Zealand. For some time Mr. and Mrs. Waldman lived in Dunedin, later removing to Wellington, where Mr. Waldman was in business for some years. Later they took up .farming, and lived at Pongaroa, where they remained till the death of Mr. Waldman about five years ago. Mrs. Waldman was an excellent mother, a kind friend, and one who was always ready to help those in distress. She will be missed by a largo circle of friends, and much sympathy will^ be felt with her family, which includes the following members: Messrs. James, Victor, and G. L. Waldman (Pongaroa), Mrs. Dunnage (Dannevirke), Mrs. Hansen (Tataramoa), Mrs. J. Stewart (Sydney), Mrs. Dawson (Levin), Mrs. M'Kenzie (Bay of Plenty), Mrs. Turvey (Woodville), and Mrs. Shanks (of Pongaroa).

Many friends will regret to' hear of tho death of Mrs. Murrell, of Manapouri, which took place on Saturday. Tho ' deceased owned the Manapoui-i Hostelry for many years, an.d made a host of friends throughout Now Zealand and overseas. She is survived by her husband and a family of five.
