RED CROSS WORK
Ono. of the activities quietly carried out by the local Red Cross Society is that'of supplying various appliances and medical comforts for the sick room and the, home. During the past five years such articles as spinal chairs, in-' valid chairs, erutehes i hot water bottles, and other equipment associated with the sick room have been donated and purchased, being lent out when sickness prevails to families whose means very often preclude the necessary articles being purchased owing to the cost. A day or two ■.ago.'a' spinal chair was kindly donated by a resident of the Lowor Hutt, and on the day following the chair was handed over to a patient suffering a serious : physical disability. As a result, of this moans of transport tho patient can now be wheeled out. ■Another-aged patient who had been confined to his bed for many years communicated with the society and asked if a chair could he mado available. Immediately the article was supplied, and proved the means of brightening the hours of the sick one. Tho demand for these appliances, is varied and extensive, but so far. tho society has been able to cope with it. The secrotary states that maybe there aro homos in Wellington in winch sick room equipment and appliances have been happily set aside, and the owners might be glad of tho opportunity to hand them over.' Should there bo any such casea the equipment will bo gratefully recoivod by the society, and will assuredly serve as a means of promoting the comfort and well-being of other sufferers who, apart from their physical handicap, are not in the best o± financial circumstances. ■ .
