Mr. C. M' Donald, chairman of the Northern Collieries Association, stated that unless the crisis in the coal industry was quickly ended a number of Newcastle and Maitland collieries would have to close down. Tenders are being called by tho South Australian Government for tho supply of 800,000 tons of coal. Tho only hope New South Wales collieries have of securing the contract is by a substantial reduction in price.
