CATHOLIC SCHOOL
FOR JOHNSONVILLE PARISH
A Catholic school for Johnsonville is to be opened on Sunday next at 3 p.m., by Archbishop Redwood, who will be assisted by Archbishop O'Shea and Monsignor M'Kenna, of Masterton. Since the parish was established seven years ago the congregation has grown considerably, and it was found necessary to build a school for the education of the children.
The school will be under the control of the Sisters of St. Brigid, whose head house for New Zealand is in Masterton. Since the Order was established in Master.ton it has opened branches at Carterton, Pahiatua, and Foxton. A house and grounds have now been purchased at Johnsonville, and residence was taken up last week.
The new school contains three classrooms, each 27ft by 27ft; a teachers' room, and an installation for heating purposes. The building is constructed in brick, and special attention was devoted to"vehtilation and lighting." The contract was carried out by Messrs. Le Bean rind Devery to plans prepared by Mr. Llewellyn Williams.
The community will consist of ' four Sisters under the direction of Mother Evangelist. The new school lias been built in Taylor terrace, opposite the children's park. ■ .
