The Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. P. A. de.la Perrelle) leaves for the Southland District to-night. He will be absent from Wellington for ' some days.

The Minister of Marine (the Hon. J. G. Cobbe) left to-day for Auckland to attend the conference of harbour boards. Before, returning to Wellington, towards the end of next weelc, he will visit the Feilding Show.

Air. E. C. Addisou, inspector in charge of the New Zealand division of the Bank of New South Wales, was a passenger from Australia by the Tahiti yesterday. Mr. Addison was accompanied by his wife and family, who ate now taking up their residence.-in the Dominion.

Mr. F. G. Cray, who has been chairman of the Levin Fire Board since its formation ten years ago, and who has been chairman of the Foxton and tho Otaki Fire- Boards for several years, severed his connection with these institutions on Thursday. A social function took place at the three centres when Mr. Cray received several valuable gifts. The Levin board members gave Mr. Cray a solid leather travelling case, the Otaki board presented, him with a case of pipes, and the .Foxton board gave him a, gold-mounted fountain pen. The members of the Foxton Fire Brigade presented Mr. Cray with a travelling rug.

At a special meeting of tho Pelonc Division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, presided over, by tho Mayor, Mr. D. M'Kenzie, who is also the president of the brigade, the presentation of a handsome clock, was made to Mr. F. S. Mai-tin, one of the oldest nicinbers of the brigade, on account of his approaching transfer to Otahuhu. The chairman and members spoke highly of the work done by Mr. Martin, and said It was owing to his services as secretary and member that the brigade occupied the position it did. Tire assistance given by Mrs. Martin was also highly spoken of. Mr. Martin suitably responded. ' ' ■
