SALVATION ARMY

TO SETTLE DISPUTE

NEGOTIATIONS REPORTED

RUMOURED TERM.S

Australian I'ress Association—United Sorvlco. (ReceieviJ 28th January, 1 p.m.) LONDON, 27tli January. Eleventh-hour negotiations to achieve an amicable out-of-court settlement'of the Salvation Army dispute have been in progress at the week-end. The "Daily Herald" understands that the General is prepared'to withdraw from tho Court on condition that he is allowed to retire. He is prepared, to destroy tho sealed envelope, containing the name of his self-appointed successor, leaving the High Council, to nominate a new General. His entourage consider that these concessions might pave the way to a settlement, but they are not optimistic as they realise that the High Council has been driven into Court, and is now engaged in fighting for principles affecting tho Army not only in the present but in tho future.
