The Prince of Wales leaves London to-morrow night for Newcastle to begin a three days' tour of the distressed areas in the Northumberland and Durham coalfields. The Prince, who is a patron of the Lord Mayor's relief fund, will be accompanied by its organising secretary. His visit is largely a personal one, and no plans have been made in advance, since his daily movements will be determined by the different circumstances which may arise. His purpose is to see for himself the general and domestic incidence of conditions' in tH coalfields. It is reported that his Christmas Eve wireless 'appeal on behalf of the distress fund produced an immediate response. The fund is now approaching £600,000, and the Government is contributing an amount equivalent to that publicly subscribed.
