INVERCARGILL, 26th January.

Allan Lamb, aged 25, a farm labourer, appeared bei'oro Mr. G. Cruickshank, S.M., on an indictable charge of assaulting Robert Edward Bulling at Timii on tho morning of lSth January with a hedge slasher, so.as to cause him actual bodily harm. Tho wounds inflicted on Bulling were- slight, and it was suggested by the police that if the Magistrate thought it advisable the indictable charge should be replaced by one of common assault. This was agreed to, and after hearing evidence tho Magistrate convicted the accused, and released him on probation for two years.
